Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson Apt 2B
Written by Kate Hamill, this play is a darkly comic, modern reimagining of Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson, portraying them as women and roommates in present-day London. Watson, a divorced doctor still shaken by her past, moves into 221 Baker Street, Apt. 2B, where she meets the eccentric and brilliant Holmes. Together, they become embroiled in a series of mysteries, beginning with a murder in a motel where “RACHE” is written in blood, which Holmes cleverly deduces actually refers to “RACHEL.” Their investigations lead them into complex situations involving a billionaire tech CEO, revenge porn, and the manipulations of Irene Adler. As the mysteries unfold, the duo confronts a larger mastermind manipulating events from behind the scenes, ultimately discovering that “Lestrade” is actually Moriarty in disguise. With wit, cunning, and teamwork, Holmes and Watson outsmart him, and by the end, their bond is reaffirmed when Holmes convinces Watson to stay despite her initial desire to leave. The play combines fast-paced comedy, theatrical slapstick, and stage combat with serious themes such as trauma, gender, surveillance, power, and friendship, offering a fresh and modern twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes stories.
